- My love of baking started when I was 9. My mom taught me how to bake. I remember the first time I made cupcakes.. my mom never told me not to fill the cupcake cups to the top, so my batter overflowed.. then mom explained about the baking powder and baking soda. When my boyfriend (now my husband) was courting me, I made him sans rival (a Filipino cake.. really the cake tastes like heaven, no rival as it means in English), he was hooked and he later told me that he told himself, "I will marry this woman! She can bake!" I have been baking for all my life, trying new recipes and altering them. I have baked for my family (growing with 9 grandkids) and friends. I introduced muffins to some of my foreign students who stayed with me. I had one Japanese student who could eat 6-8 regular size muffins while studying. I have a full time day job, but I bake when I get home and sometimes stay up really, really late just to try a new recipe. I love decorating the character cakes for my grandkids' birthday parties.
